Sowing Period

Giga White' is the tallest of all Alyssum varieties and also boasts the largest blooms! Producing pillowy flowerheads of dazzling white flowers that create a spectacular display in a container or hanging basket, either alone or amongst other bedding plants. Alyssum 'Giga White' also makes excellent ground cover in rockeries and borders where their scented flowers will bloom throughout summer, attracting a wealth of pollinating insects. Height: 15cm (6in). Spread: 30cm (12in). Culinary note: The leaves and flowers of sweet alyssum have a pungent flavour, similar to kale. Try adding them to salads, cold soups or even omelettes.

Sowing Information

Sow alyssum seeds from late March to May at 15-29C (60-85F), on the surface of a good quality seed compost and gently firm down. Keep the soil damp but not wet and do not exclude light. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination, which usually takes 7-30 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When alyssum plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in full sun on light sandy, well drained soil at a distance of 30cm (12") apart. Alternatively, sow alyssum seed outdoors in May, directly into well prepared seed beds.

While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.
