Growing perennials from seed is a cost-saving way of filling your garden with colour for many years to come. Nepeta ‘Blue Panther’ is one of our favourites for striking flowers and aromatic foliage. If you want to add height to your borders, the orange-red flowers of Oenothera ‘Sunset Boulevard’ deliver colour and interest, while very little beats the Ox-eye daisy for drawing in pollinators.

Which flower seeds are best for filling borders?

At 45cm tall, the unusual, fluted flowers of Coreopsis Incredible! ‘Sea Shells Mix’ make an excellent addition to the front of borders. For an economical way to fill the rest of the space, try Cosmea ‘Sensation Tall Mix’, and perennial delphinium seeds. Lavatera trimestris ‘Beauty Mix’ is another cost-effective option and it’s very easy to grow. Simply direct sow the seeds to produce large, bushy and colourful plants that will quickly fill your border.

For the best scent, try the timeless elegance of Column Stock ‘Apricot’ or the beautiful white blooms of Mirabilis longiflora.
