With its remarkably long flowering season and attractive evergreen foliage, Nerium oleander 'Red' is a rewarding shrub for large patio pots. From July to October, it produces vibrant cerise-red, five-petaled flowers in clusters at the branch tips. This shrub forms a tall, bushy shape with lance-shaped, leathery, grey-green leaves, providing year-round structure in the garden. Growing Information
Grow in full sun in free-draining soil. Hardy down to -5, Nerium oleander can be grown in the border in in mild parts of the UK and coastal areas. Alternatively grow it in a container and move into a sheltered position to overwinter. Water well during the establishment phase, plants are drought tolerant once established. Responds well to pruning in the spring. Deadhead faded Oleander flowers regularly to prolong their display. Take care to wear gloves and long sleeves when pruning Oleander as contact with the foliage and sap may irritate the skin.
