Often referred to as "the vegetarian's oyster" and a favorite among modern chefs, you'll be amazed by how closely this plant resembles the flavour of the eponymous shellfish! Found in the UK's coastal, isolated areas, this plant is commonly known as "Sea Bluebells" due to its striking, edible blue flowers. It forms creeping mats of fleshy, blue-green foliage and thrives in poor, gritty soils, making it ideal for rock gardens and coastal settings. Tasting your first Oyster leaf is truly a unique experience. Its salty, slightly earthy flavour pairs wonderfully with seafood, and it adds a delightful umami kick. Perfect for salads, sushi, or even wilted in butter and served on toast. Height: 20-30cm (8-12in). Spread: 30-40cm (12-16in).

Sowing Information

Seeds require cold stratification at temperatures below 2°C for germination to occur. Sow into gritty, free-draining compost in small pots and keep in a shady cold frame throughout the winter to expose the seeds to a long spell of cold weather. When seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up into 15cm pots being careful not to disturb the plant's roots. Grow on in a sunny/shaded spot with protection from the midday sun in light, free draining soil. Provide protection from slugs and snails as soon as seeds germinate.

While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. All Suttons products should reach you in perfect condition, just as they left us. If you are dissatisfied in any way with their condition on arrival, please let us know within 14 days. We are only liable for the cost of the goods as quoted on the website plus the cost of delivery if the goods are faulty.
