RHS Chelsea ‘Product of the Year’ Nominations 2021

To celebrate the best gardening products on the market, the RHS have announced their shortlist for its first ever Sustainable Garden Product of the Year Award 2021!

The Product of the Year Award was launched in 2011 and each year the RHS celebrates the best new garden products against a strict criteria of innovation, visual appeal, functionality, quality, value for money and environmental sustainability.

Talking of environmental sustainability, this year’s annual Product of the Year Award brings sustainability to the centre of the contest and reflects on the evolution of environmentally friendly products becoming widely used in the garden.

The focus on green credentials leads to this year’s nominations promoting the use and capability of sustainable materials and highlights issues of climate change, pollution and plastics affecting our planet. Therefore, the nominated products will also be judged for their carbon footprint, environmental best practice, durability, biodegradability and recyclability too!

In hope to claim the prize, each product will be judged by a notorious team of experts – featuring Dragons' Den Deborah Meaden! The winning product will be announced during the week of the RHS Virtual Chelsea Flower Show 2021 (17-21 May) as the main show has been postponed until September. However, shortlisted products will be on display in the famous Great Pavilion at the main September event, so you won’t miss out!

Wool Compost with Comfrey

Dalefoot Composts has produced an alternative to peat-free compost and has introduced a Dalefoot Wool Compost range that allows gardeners to incorporate a sustainable way of growing into their gardening duties! It includes a blend of comfrey, bracken and sheep’s wool, all sourced from the UK. The use of peat is becoming a serious environmental issue and many gardeners set out to use peat-free media today.

DuraOcean® Chair

DuraOcean® produce a range of ocean plastic chairs and bistro sets that turns marine waste, such as fishing ropes and nets, into stunning outdoor furniture! Compost Loo

An environmentally friendly lavatory is hoping to claim the prize this year, but not only is it transportable, but also very attractive too! Compost toilets have become quite the range in the last year, with dozens of waterless toilets now installed around the UK. Requiring no water or drainage they are the environmentally friendly way to go to the loo! Also using no chemicals and reducing pollution.

Ocean Plastic Pots

Every pot is crafted by ocean waste, preventing it from living in landfill and turning it into garden pots and planters instead! Available in Mint Green, Blue and Dark green these gorgeous pots have been designed in Glasgow and made in Scotland.
