There are three main types of seed potato; first earlies, second earlies and the maincrop. Each seed potato is planted at a different time of year depending on when you want to have the crop and the type of potatoes that you want to grow.

To get the best potato crop and have a good chance of avoiding pest and disease problems it is vital to plant healthy high-quality seed, which is exactly what you get from Suttons seed potatoes.

Think you need a large garden or allotment to grow potatoes, well think again, you can grow potatoes in large containers or potato growing bags on your patio or outdoor space. Once you grow your own potatoes you won’t go back to shop-bought.

Your seed potatoes should be planted from February to early March depending on what variety you chose to plant. The first earlies produce a smaller potato (new potato), and the maincrop produce a bigger potato (a bakers potato).
